The Department of Humanities
The Department provides teaching of the complex of humanitarian disciplines in the programs of preparation of bachelors, specialists and masters:

The objective of the Department is to lay the Foundation of common cultural and generic competencies of future graduates.
Teachers of the Department are demanded in the organization of educational work with students. Head. the Department Starodvorane N. P. is the head a press-services of the branch, a member of the Council on educational work, associate Professor; A. G. Nagorny is Deputy Director of the branch of educational work, the head of Service socially-the psychological help to students (SPS); associate Professor Slepenkov S. V. is a consultant SCPS, is a member of the Council on educational work; associate Professor Casilina I. A. working in the Board of curators of 1-2 courses, provides guidance to the student editorial Board of the almanac "Reflection" and "a New Reflection".
The work of the Department aims at training qualified professionals for the implementation of youth policy in the region, received numerous letters of thanks and diplomas of the administrations of the city of Smolensk and Smolensk region, Regional and Central election commissions, the Ministry of education and science of the Russian Federation, awards Dept.
Of the history
The process of the formation of the Department covers the period from the autumn of 1961, when the senior teacher Krasil'nikov, Ivan began to hold classes on the history of the CPSU, and until 1965, when teachers began to lead a complex academic disciplines of the social cycle. The staff of the Department gradually increased. By early 1966, the Department worked 10 people:1 assistant Professor (Ph. D. Krasilnikov I. D.), 4 senior lecturers (PhD Kokovtsov Yu. a., Ph. D. V. P. Veselov, Ph. D. Olontsev B. V., Ilchenko I. E) and 5 assistants (Maniacs V. P., Kislyakov I. I., Kukoverova M. P., Ilyin V. N., Sasykov VI). Senior laboratory assistant worked Egorenkova, A. F.
In 1967, the Department of Marxism-Leninism was formally approved (the order of Mweso from 01.09.1967, No. 563). Its first head was Krasil'nikov I. D., who led the Department on a voluntary basis.
To strengthen the scientific potential of the Department and assistance in scientific and methodical work since the second half of the 60-ies and 70-ies of the administration of SHMEI invited qualified scientific and pedagogical staff: candidates of economic Sciences P. Z. Egorova, A. Dunaeva, D., Kalinin Yu. p., Vlasov A. A., candidate of philosophical Sciences, Pavlova A. I., Gorbacheva S. P. and candidate of historical Sciences E. V. Danilenko
During these years, several teachers defended their theses. Candidate of historical Sciences became Olontsev B. V., Stetsenko V. F., Ilyukhov A. A., candidate of pedagogical Sciences – Kukoverova M. P.
In 1968, the Department of Marxism-Leninism became the independent Department of political economy and a particular economy. It was headed by volunteer senior lecturer Ilchenko I. E. Members of the staff of the new Department were associate professors Vlasov A. A., Veselov, V. P., senior teacher, V. I. Sazikov, assistants, V. F. Kuznetsov, B. P. And Pillars of the Department of Marxism-Leninism was renamed the Department of "History of the CPSU, philosophy, and scientific communism". From September 1, 1972, the acting head of this Department was performed Ph. D., associate Professor Stetsenko V. F. In this de facto division of the Department existed until September 1975, when the decision of the Educational Department of the MPEI and rector of the branch of the Department of history, philosophy and scientific communism was United with the Department of political economy. She once again became known as the Department of Marxism-Leninism.
Since 1975, the Department worked with research groups on history, philosophy, political economy, which is annually attended by about a hundred students. Great help students in their independent work on studying of social-political disciplines had created in 1966, the office of public Sciences (head of the Bushes B. P., senior technicians Kolmogorov A. R., Lapchenko A. T., L. A. Nikanorova later).
In connection with the development of the branch in 1976 the Ministry of higher and secondary special education of the USSR has approved two new departments: "History of the CPSU and the Marxist-Leninist philosophy" and "Political economy and scientific communism". The first Department was headed by PhD.N., associate Professor Pavlov I. A., the second – candidate of Economics, associate Professor Dunaev A. D.
Fifteen years the Department operated under these names, providing the teaching of socio-political and economic subjects, spending most scientific, methodical, organizational and educational work in the team of the branch. At this time, the scientific potential of the departments grew both through invitations to the branch of qualified scientific and pedagogical workers (such as Phys.N. Cputin A.V., candidate of economic Sciences of the Chaldeans, V. T., C. E. S. Parshutkin J. A.,Ph. D. Aleksandrov A. A.), and due to the fact that a number of teachers defended candidate and doctoral dissertations. Candidate of historical Sciences became Ustinova L. V., Afanasiev V. G., Starodvorane N. P. Karelin E. G., candidate of philosophical Sciences – Gerbiceva S. A., candidates of economic Sciences –Michalis T. N., Tronina, O. B. In 1987, he defended the dissertation on competition of a scientific degree of the doctor of historical Sciences and became the first Professor of political economy and scientific communism Ph. D., associate Professor A. A. Aleksandrov
An important place in the activities of the departments worked in various forms of extracurricular work: management of student scientific circles and the school of the young lecturer, organization of student's theoretical and educational conferences, conducting of socio-political practices, engaging students to participate in all-Union competitions of the social Sciences and the youth movement. A number of student works, scientific leaders whom were associate professors Stetsenko V. F., Dunaev A. A., Kalinin Yu., Ustinov V. L., and others, have repeatedly noted in regional and national competitions.
Simultaneously with the teaching and research activities faculty members were very active in the Institute, city and region. Every year they read 400-500 lectures in enterprises and organizations of Smolensk region.
The peak of development of the social science Department has reached out to the middle of 80-ies. At this time they employed 32 teachers and 8сотрудников of the number of educational support personnel. The departments functioned technically well equipped with the necessary literature two educational-methodical Cabinet (heads of them in different years were Gorevoy M. Y., Stasenko S. A., Sapozhnikov G. S., Lapchenko A. T.), and several specialized classrooms.
The period of perestroika and democratisation have made a significant impact on the position of the social Sciences. It became clear that in its present form it may not meet the time requirements. In this regard, in 1990 the Department of political economy and scientific communism was called the Department of economic and socio-political doctrines (head. Department of Phys.N., associate Professor Cputin A. V.), and Department of history of the CPSU and the Marxist-Leninist philosophy was renamed the Department of history and philosophy of (head. the Department Ph. D., associate Professor V. L. Ustinov).
The transition to new curricula and programs, reducing recruitment to the branch reduced from year to year the teaching load on subjects of social science cycle, which led to a new reorganization. In 1991, on the basis of the existing two departments were created a single Department of Humanities. Its head was elected Professor A. V. Cputin
Due to the reduction in teaching load, the strength of the Department has decreased significantly. On a holiday gone docents Olontsev B. V., Ustinova L. V., senior teachers Kubrakova Z. S., Ilyin V. N., Kuznetsov V. F., Glazkov M. V., assistants Bushes B. P., Mechetin H. I., C. A. Stasenko, who for many years worked in SHMEI.
Ten teachers were transferred to the newly created chair of Economics, organization and production management. In the 90-ies of the list assigned to the Department disciplines are constantly changed. In this regard, the Department came to young teachers: Mikhalchenkov L. Y., Nagorno A. G., Khromov (Casilina) I. A., Slepenkov S. V., Volkov I. V., Phys.N. Serov V. I. was admitted to the state DHS of Serov I. P. Evidence of professional growth of teachers of the Department became Ph. D. theses Chrome (Casilino) I. A. and Volkova I. V., the publication of monographs Ph. D. Alexandrov A. A., PhD Sharovym I. P., Ph. D. Starodubcevas N. P. Phys.N. Sharovym V. I. (in collaboration with Sharovym I. P.).
The process of updating the social studies intensified scientific activity. The results of the historical research of professors V. G. Afanasyev, Starodvorane N. P. received recognition from the scientific community, entered in the academic journal "Russia in the twentieth century. Historians of the world argue" (1994) and "Russia in the twentieth century. The fate of historical science" (1996). Khromova (Casilina) I. A. took part in the preparation of the collective work "the Russian literature of the twentieth century. Typological aspects of the study" (2004). Fruitful historical research and literary activity of Professor A. A. Aleksandrov was awarded the all-Russian literary award "Stalingrad" (200) and the prize named after A. T. Tvardovsky (2005).
Teachers of the Department participated in the development of the new faculty of Economics and management (SEM). Head of the Department associate Professor A. V. Cputin in 1997 was appointed Dean of the FEU and successfully worked in this position until the liquidation of the faculties in 2004. Associate Professor Starodvorane N. P. at the same time worked as the Deputy Dean of the PMT.
Associate Professor Cputin A. V., moreover, made a great contribution to the development of further education. On his initiative, in 2001, the branch was involved in the implementation of the Presidential program of management training. In 2001, Cputin A. V. headed the Center for retraining and advanced training of specialists in "Economy Plus".
In the new conditions, after termination of the former ideological organizations (CPSU, VLKSM), the Department has become a center of extracurricular educational work with students. At the initiative of the Deputy head of the Department of Starodvorane N. P. at the Department of Humanities was established student clubs of fans of theatre "the Gods" (1996), movie buffs of "Cinemania" (2003), lovers of travel and excursions "Kamchatka" (2002); with the support of the diocese of Smolensk – the circle "the History of Orthodox culture and ethics" (1995); the study group "History of world cinema", which from 2000 to 2004, creative was led by senior lecturer L. Y. Mikhalchenkov On the work of student's club of fans of theatre "the Gods" repeatedly wrote the Smolensk newspaper.
At the initiative and with the direct support Kukotina A. V. and Starodubcevas N. P. became the first student to publish the newspaper "Manager" (later – "the World FEU" and the"power" and "ENERGATE"). In 2014, in connection with the creation and development of the press-service of the branch (head – N Starodvorane.N.) at the Department of Humanities began to work the Studio "Fundamentals of journalism" (head of the Studio – V. Oleshkevich, who worked as a senior laboratory assistant of the Humanities Department in January-March, 2015). Graduates and students of the Studio – students – become a freelance correspondents of a number of print and online media.
Under the leadership of the Department was a large humanitarian aid Sobolev middle school Monastyrschinskogo district of Smolensk region. Studies and social work N. P. Starodubcevas helped to attract the attention of regional administration to the problem of restoring the historical memory of a prominent Zemstvo worker of the late XIX– early XIX century, the Creator of the Sobolev Seminary of the landowner educator A. N. Popov (1840-1910gg.). Sobolev school was named after A. N. Popov. In June 2003, in the village of Sobolevo was a monument to A. N. Popov and his wife – known knigoizdatel O. N. Popova.

In April 2007 the head of the Department of Humanities were elected Starodvorane N. P. At this time the Department begins a series of experiments related to improving teaching effectiveness. To increase the motivation of systematic independent work of students using the module-rating system of assessment. At the initiative of the Department in 2009, the Institute starts work on the use of distance learning.
In addition, in 2007 the Department was opened a regional office in the testing Center and the University's development "Humanitarian technologies" (Director – Starodvorane N. P. psychologists-consultants – sermon by A. G. Volkov and I. V.). The main purpose of his work is helping students in career-determination. Regional representation worked to 2016.
The main directions in work with students be to involve them in research work and increase their level of civil consciousness. Under the guidance of teachers of the Department students of the branch annually participate in various conferences ("Step into science", "Ethnic group. Culture. Youth, Information technology, energy and the economy" and others, 2015 in Lefortovo readings in NRU "MPEI"), in the regional contests historical research and literary works devoted to the great Patriotic war. In 2012, the work "miraculous Monument" student Garanina O. (scientific supervisor – Starodvorane N. P.), collected memories of his grandfather-the Cossack, participant of the great Patriotic war, took third place at this competition.
Since 2004, the Department organizes the participation of students in large-scale project of the Academy of historical Sciences (Moscow) "memories of war. From soldier to General". The students helped world war II veterans to record their memories and, thus, has created a unique memoir primary sources for historians of the twenty-first century. Study of students Biduk O., Stepanova M., A. Shesterikov with employees, Golovkin K., Somov, S., wojtowicz A., Polulyakh V., are made under the guidance of professors Starodubcevas N. P. and Serova I. P., in 2008 was included in the 8th volume of the series (with all their volumes of the series "Memories of the war. From soldier to General" can be found on the website www.ainros.ru).
Annually since 2007, the Department organizes the participation of students in the ongoing regional election Commission for the game "My choice" in contests for the best work on the electoral law and the electoral process. In 2012, the work of students Goncharova and E. V. Lifeway "Using the Internet in the electoral process" (supervisor Slepenkov S. V.) received third prize at a national competition. In 2014 prepared by Stepchenkova S. V. students Bavrina, E. and V. Yakushev has occupied I place in the regional competition for the best work on the problem of "Justice in Russia: theory and practice, a positive experience and shortcomings, prospects of development". In 2015, the student team of the branch, prepared by Professor Slipchenko S. V., took 1st place in business game "My choice – 2015".
With the support of the Department were published competitive work O. Garanina "Cossack remembers the last days" (2014), memories of the great Patriotic war, veteran of the Department, A. T. Lapchenkov "On the banks of the river and lake Rotovac" (2015) is dedicated to the search team of the branch work of student D. Shabanovoj (e-15) "Energy" pride Energy" (2016), a collection of student essays on the theme "the Great Patriotic war in the history of my family" (2017). Since 2014 the Department holds an annual student competition on Russian history in memory of Professor of the Department, doctor of historical Sciences A. A. Alexandrov.
Teachers of the Department continue active research work annually publish at least 10 articles. In 2015-2019 was released in the monograph of V. I. Serova, A. G. Nagorny, V. G. Afanas'eva and N. P. Starodubcevas. Significant role played by teachers and veterans of the Department in the preparation of the anniversary edition of "Between past and future. SF MEI - 55. Materials on the history of the Smolensk branch of Moscow power engineering Institute" (Smolensk, 2016. - 312 p.) N.P. Starodvorane became part of the editorial Board. A. G. Nagorny became the author of a section on the Department of Humanities. A. V. Cputin, N. P. Starodvorane, E. M., Lyubetskaya provided their memories of the branch.
From 2007 to 2017, the Department was the regional representation of the center of testing and development to MSU "Humanitarian technologies", providing assistance to students in career-determination.
The Department supported us a favorableenvironment for personal growth of each. From 2011 to 2014, the Department defended two dissertations. At the time of accreditation of the branch in January 2016 all staff of the Department consisted of associate professors, candidates of Sciences.
In 2018 the Department of Humanities in collaboration with the Department TMO first in the branch has developed Orthodox youth project and received a grant of the Foundation "Together" contest "Orthodox initiative". The project "the Road to the temple: the revival of traditions of Orthodox power" is among the best youth practices and was introduced on 29 January 2019 27-x International Christmas readings.
From 1 September 2019 to the Department of Humanities joined the Department of foreign languages.
Currently the Department employs 11 experienced faculty (8 associate professors, 3 senior lecturers) who provide the educational process on programs of preparation of bachelors, specialists and masters.
