The history of the Department
The history of the Department of electric power systems and electric direction, SHMEI begins in 1967, when under the leadership of candidate of technical Sciences, associate Professor D. D. Karasev was organized by the Department electrical systems.
In 1967, the first set of groups of students full-time study in the specialty "power Supply of industrial enterprises" (EC-67). At the same time of evening education students who have completed the first course of different specialties, was formed by a group of ES-66В.
The first teachers were young professionals - graduates of the MEI – Igor G. Gordievsky, Nicholas I. Zelenka, Valery Alekseevich Shumilov, Emma B. Shumilova, Leonid V. Starodub and Aleksandr Emelyanovich goats.
The first release of electrical engineers in the specialty "power Supply of industrial enterprises" was held at the evening Department (gr. ES-66В) in June 1972.

The first graduation of students of full-time study (gr. ES-67) was held in February 1973.
Great help in the development of the Department and training of engineers electricity was provided by the Department of electrical systems, Moscow power engineering Institute under the leadership of Lenin prize laureate doctor of technical Sciences, Professor Valentin A. Venikova.

In the late 70-ies of the electricity in direction of SHMEI was decisive: from 1976 to 1980, the first course took 4 groups (100 people) on a speciality "Electric systems and networks" and 6 groups (150 people) on a speciality "power Supply of industrial enterprises, cities and agriculture", including group 1 at the evening faculty.
In February 1980 the Department of electrical systems was headed by candidate of technical Sciences, associate Professor L. V. Starodub, who led the Department until April 1996.
